Japanese Bijin-ga (paintings of beautiful women)
deeply impressed European great painting masters with surprise and fascination,
and accepted with applause in the era of “Japonism”.
I’m sure those masters dripped and dripped their “brain drool” when they saw it.
Japanese hair style and Kimono which had developed in a unique way.
Gestures or expressions of the Japanese women who wore them.
As a Japanese person and a photographer,
I have always had an irrepressible urge to shoot something like this.
They occupy a unique space amidst the silence...
Minimal colors without excess...
Dignified look in eyes...
Soft, beautiful curving lines...
And most important of all, the way of life as women expressed.
I am really happy if these pictures grab people on an impulse,
and have them breathtaking or fascinating.
